Hi all VHSC Members and Families!

Welcome to Soccer Festivus 2020, brought to you by Trak Shak!Like everything else these days, this year’s Fun Run will be a little different, but the message is the same…

“A little exercise never hurt anyone!”

Due to covid protocols, teams will run in smaller groups, and then play their scrimmage.

GAME PLAY

Parents are allowed to watch the games, but all adults are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing at the complexes.

  • Spectators will adhere to ASA guidelines while watching any matches – CLICK HERE
  • All U12-U19 teams should check their BYGA app for updated times and locations for games and running.

ACADEMY TRAINING

For Academy training on Saturday, August 8:

  • Academy will be training Saturday instead of hosting games
  • Therefore, parents will still be required to remain in the parking lot area and not be allowed down on the field with the Academy age groups.

A big thanks to Trak Shak, as we start our sixth year of this partnership!

Vestavia Soccer Staff

Become a Certified U.S. Soccer Federation Referee

As soccer continues to grow in Alabama and across the state, more referees are needed to support the growth.

Alabama already has a shortage of soccer referees and referees are vital to the success and growth of our sport; a game cannot be played without referees.

VHSC is excited to promote the New Soccer Referee Program for the 2020-2021 season to bring youth players into refereeing and help address the shortage.

Next Steps

This year’s First-time Grassroots Referee Certification Clinics will be held virtually via Zoom.

Create a profile and register at the U.S. Soccer Referee Learning Center (each referee will need to register with their own email address.

If your player does not have their own personal email address, please create one before registering)

  • Select one of the online/virtual training courses being held in August by clicking one of the Virtual Referee Course links below and paying the registration fee.
  • Note – Each session is limited to 20 participants and registration closes the Wednesday before the session start date.
  • Complete the online coursework and be certified as a referee.

Vestavia Hills Coach Leo Harlan

Congratulations to Jaden Servania and Jake Rufe, two former Steamers who both got starts for the Birmingham Legion this past week, as the USL returned to play. Both were instrumental in the Legion getting off to a 2-0 start for the season.

Jaden played for Coach Luke and Steamers 01’s before moving to the FC Dallas Academy. He is on an Academy contract with the Legion, which leaves him eligible to play collegiately for Wake Forrest. He started at forward in the Legion’s home win over Memphis, and came on in their second win in South Carolina.

Rufe, a Huntsville native, played his last two years of youth soccer for Coach Pat Flinn and Steamers 96 Black. He was named Gatorade Player of the Year for Alabama his senior year. He played at Western Michigan, after one year at Indiana. He started at right back in Sunday’s win at Charleston, and came on in the first game as well.

The Legion is back in action this Saturday night at home vs the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Congratulations to them both, as well as Steamers 98 alumni JJ Williams, for getting some minutes for Atlanta United in the MLS Is Back Tournament in Orlando.
