What to do between seasons?
The time between the fall and spring soccer seasons is an excellent opportunity for young players (ages 7–14) to grow, improve their skills, and develop as athletes and individuals. Here are some realistic and fun ways to make the most of the offseason while preparing for the upcoming season.
Stay Active with Complementary Sports
Participating in other sports can help players stay fit and develop new skills:
• Basketball enhances agility, hand-eye coordination, and decision-making.
• Volleyball improves reaction time, jumping ability, and teamwork.
• Futsal focuses on quick touches, ball control, and spatial awareness in tight spaces.
Engage in Small Group Training
Train with friends and teammates to stay connected and motivated. Focus on technical skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, and defending in a supportive and fun environment.
Keep the Ball at Your Feet
Consistency is key during the offseason. Players should aim to:
Spend 20–30 minutes every other day working on their favorite skills or moves.
Practice juggling to improve touch and control.
Organize informal games with friends to keep gameplay fun and pressure-free.
Recommended Activities for Soccer Players
Watch professional matches to learn from top players and teams.
Set personal goals for the offseason, like mastering a specific skill or move.
Maintain fitness with light jogging, bodyweight exercises, or agility drills.
Enjoy Family Time
Offseason is also an opportunity to relax and recharge. Spend quality time with family while balancing soccer-focused activities.
